My Feel-Good List Of 80s Songs, They Make My Heart Happy

Guitar leaning against a tree in a field

“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

Confucius

Music puts a bookmark in each chapter of our book of life. Whether you were in high school or waking up in the wee hours of the morning to feed your newborn, there’s that one song, that when you hear it, you know exactly what you were doing at that moment. It makes you smile, it makes you reminisce and it makes your heart happy. I recently created an 80s playlist because I needed an escape. I wanted to be taken back to my happy place, to my childhood. I needed some feel-good music to take me away from life’s stressors. I hope you enjoy my picks. So, without further ado, here is my list of 80s songs!

Something about the music in the beginning of Hungry Eyes, it’s almost haunting.

Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen

You can’t do an 80s list without Michael Jackson. As a child, Man In The Mirror helped me recognize that I had a pretty good life and there were countless people worldwide who were going through various hardships. It opened my eyes and demanded compassion from me.

Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson

Billy Ocean was born in Trinidad and Tobago like I was.

Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean

When this one comes on the radio, I just have to turn it up!

Round and Round by RATT

Artists coming together for a good cause.

We Are The World

Love this one!

Burning Heart by Survivor

I really loved this one as a teen.

Electric Blue by Icehouse

I love the coordinated dance moves.

If It Isn’t Love by New Edition

The album Open Up and Say…..Ahh! was the first one I ever bought on vinyl.

Nothin’ But A Good Time by Poison

The 80s would not have been the same without Guns N’ Roses.

Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N’ Roses
Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses

White Lion had quite a few good songs but this one was my favorite.

Tell Me by White Lion

The video always made me feel like dancing. Good times.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston

Good stuff.

My Prerogative by Bobby Brown

I loved my hair bands. Can you tell?

Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi

This one always played on the tv. We had no cable channels back then and this one would come up between shows. The good ole days. Eddy Grant has his roots in the Caribbean.

Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant

Revolutionary collaboration.

Walk This Way by RUN DMC ft. Aerosmith

This one is my husband’s favorite. He has good taste.

Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship

Hair band again. I was obsessed, obviously.

Here I Go Again by Whitesnake

To round out the list is Bryan Adams.

Summer Of ’69 by Bryan Adams

Oh my goodness! I always enjoy these posts. They make me smile so big because I really grew up listening to a variety of music and continue to do so. Songs can take you back to a moment or a time in your life like nothing else. New Edition was one of my favorite groups and then all the branching off they did. They kept giving and giving. Fun list!

My parents were teens in the 80’s and I grew up in the 2000’s, but they made sure I knew all of the 80’s music! My husband will still laugh at me when I know all of the words to all of these songs! Haha

Ok, so now I feel old!!! I am so glad I, too, was a teen in the ’80s. Still, the best music ever made. Timeless music!

80’s music is the best! Loving and knowing 80’s music doesn’t make us old; it keeps up young! Your list did not include one of my favorites, “I’ Melt with You” by Modern English. : )

  • […] Having said all of that, you know your body best. Try different things and see what works for you. I was able to do a mix of walking on the treadmill and weight training. If, on some days, I felt that my energy level was low, I just stuck to walking. Most importantly, do exercises you enjoy, and put on your favorite playlist to make the time fly by. So much fun to get a glimpse of your personality with this playlist! Also I gotta check some of these out – didn’t listen much to music until my teen years in the 90s, so I missed most of these.

These are some interesting song choices. I grew up in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and our music culture is Reggae, Dancehall and Gosple music. It was not until i migrated to the US that i was exposed to some of the songs you highlighted. Old school music is the best. They embelish raw talent and concious lyrics. Thanks for sharing ❤.
